Editrade Customs Link Automated Invoice Interface (AII)

Remote Location Filing (RLF) allows participants approved by U.S. Customs to file an electronic entry summary from a location other than the port where the goods will arrive or be examined.

RLF is open to companies that:
• File entry summaries via ABI
• Participate in statement processing and make payment via the Automated   Clearing House (ACH)
• Have Electronic Invoice Processing (EIP) capabilities

The ability to transmit an electronic commercial invoice to U.S. Customs through ABI is the most demanding prerequisite to participating in Remote Location Filing. The Automated Invoice Interface (AII) option in Customs Link complies with the Customs’ Electronic Invoice Processing (EIP) requirements. With AII you can enter detailed commercial invoice information and transmit it to U.S. Customs, and you can create entry summaries from the commercial invoice information. Once you demonstrate to U.S. Customs that you can provide the commercial invoice information, you can take advantage of Customs Invoice By Request. Process.

Invoice by Request is a procedure implemented by U.S. Customs to simplify Remote Location Filing transactions. Instead of requiring a transmission of commercial invoice information on every shipment, Remote Location Filers are only required to transmit commercial invoice data when Customs specifically requests it. Current RLF participants have reported that the electronic invoice is requested on a very small percentage of shipments.

Customs Brokers across the country are taking advantage of RLF in order to file entries for their importers in any approved port of entry. You, too, can offer this additional service to your importers with the Automated Invoice Interface (AII).
